Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal to announce ground handling tender at Tribhuwan Airport

Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) plans to announce a global tender for ground handling at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA). CAAN is seeking to end the monopoly and manage air traffic more efficiently at the airport, with plans to operate two separate ground handling services from 2013. TIA general manager Ratish Chandra Lal Suman confirmed, “The board meeting has decided to add one more ground handling service at TIA and hand over its operation to a private company. Due to Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC)’s monopoly, the ground handling charges in our country is the most expensive service charge.”
